Board Accountability-Community Engagement Policy
The Board shall maintain a Board-Community engagement process and hold itself accountable and offer the community member ample opportunity to share feedback regarding its performance and effectiveness. It is expected of the Board to take corrective action upon receiving negative feedback, including but not limited to considering the removal of ineffective members, seeking development and training opportunities and documenting progress.
The Board shall implement the following accountability and community engagement practices:
- Establish and publish annual goals for the Board by the end of March of each calendar year.
- Complete a self-assessment to measure board performance based on Board responsibilities as outlined in the bylaws, as well as the goals established for the year, by November of each calendar year.
- Conduct a community survey (may be part of a larger organization-wide survey) and publish the outcome of this survey along with specific response to community concerns and, if needed, a plan to address community concerns. Goal is to finish this by the end of October of each calendar year
- Hold community town halls throughout the year, at least 3 times a year, where congregants can voice concerns and ask questions directly to the Board.
- Maintain a transparent mechanism for community members to submit feedback year-round, including but not limited to an anonymous feedback form.
- In addition to Board business, each Board member shall volunteer a minimum of 5 hours per month in the community.
Board members are to conduct these steps annually, and monitor trends and identify gaps for further Board development and community engagement.
